RCCongress 2010 Workshop:
In the Spotlight: A Media Training Workshop
Anuttama Dasa is Director of Communications and a member of the Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), a Vaishnava, or monotheistic Hindu, tradition.
His media experience includes interviews on Dateline, Larry King Live, Fox Morning News, Paula Zahn, and the BBC. (Most of these he handled pretty well. The others you will learn about if you attend his workshop on media training.)
He has taught communications courses in North America, South America, Europe, India, Russia, Australasia and Africa, and for a diverse number of organizations including the World Parliament of Religions.
He is a former board member of the Society for Hindu-Christian Studies within the American Academy of Religion, and vice president of the Religion Communicators Council (RCC), during which he authored the chapter “America is Interfaith” in the RCC’s Speaking Faith: The Essential Handbook for Religion Communicators.
In the Spotlight: A Media Training Workshop
If it’s true that our human species fears public speaking, then how do we feel about live TV interviews? If you would like to reduce your own angst about this question and take a chance at becoming an effective on-camera spokesperson, join us!
Skills learned include preparation, basic tips for successful print, radio and TV interviews, staying on message, how to “turn questions,” and handling tough issues.
Near the end of the workshop, a few volunteers will be interviewed on camera and receive on-the-spot constructive feedback from their peers.
